With her parents at the hospital, Lizzie took the offered time to call Meg's boyfriend, Sam. He deserved to know what had happened to her.

Locking herself in her room, she punched in his number, the one she had found stored in Meg's phone before her parents took it.

Stewart Manning was not looking forward to this conversation, but the matter concerning his daughter had to be dealt with.

He sat down and punched in the number for Principal Randall.

Meg hadn't been able to call Sam; her parents kept a guarded eye on her and actually took her cell phone away from her. If she attempted to get on the phone, one or the other was right there, and her father had actually locked her in her room a few times, for more than a few hours at a time.

It had taken one look at her, and her mother knew. Her father was slower to catch on, and only then by his wife telling him so. Meg was sent to her room shortly thereafter where she sat on the edge of her bed and waited for her parents to come in and talk to her. When they finally did, they shut and locked her door and stayed for two hours.
